Saturday, October 11th will be the Berlin & Beyond Autumn Showcase, featuring five great films from Germany, Austria and Switzerland. In the heart of the festival is Diplomacy - the latest work from German film legend Volker Schlöndorff. As this is our first time with a Berlin & Beyond program in Japantown, its so opportune that we have a film linking German and Japanese culture, with the documentary Enemies / Friends. This year also happens to be 100 years since the start of WWI. Celebrated Austrian director Michael Glawogger sadly passed away earlier this year. Were screening in 35 MM film his amazing documentary Megacities. The mesmerizing film Dreamland is our Swiss film, and were thrilled to welcome to San Francisco both the films director, Petra Volpe, and veteran Director of Photography Judith Kaufmann. Judith Kaufmann was the cinematographer for some very, very well-known German films, including 4 Minutes, When We Leave and Two Lives, which opened our festival earlier this year. She also co-wrote the screenplay for Two Lives. Well end the program with the fabulous Banklady.
