Saturday checks for all three British jumps cards BY ANDREW DIETZ 11:04AM 31 JAN 2014 THE prospect of no jumps racing in Britain on Saturday has become a distinct possibility after Sandown, Ffos Las and Wetherby on Friday arranged raceday inspections due to the continuing threat of heavy rain. RELATED LINKS Saturday race cards One aspect already determined is that Sandown has abandoned its hurdles races, which has activated an all-chase card, subject to a 7.45am inspection due to a wet outlook. Clerk of the course Andrew Cooper (@ACooperClerk) tweeted: “Saturday @Sandownpark will now be an all-Chase card 1.15 to 4.10. With up to 15mm forecast this evening we will inspect 7.45am Saturday.” At Ffos Las, the track’s meeting, featuring the Welsh Champion Hurdle and the West Wales National, is subject to a 7.30am inspection. Clerk of the course Tim Long (@_TimLong_) tweeted: “@FfosLasRC dry Thursday, going is heavy. Rain today, clearing later (15-20mm). Sat - cloudy and breezy, showers. Inspection 7.30am Saturday.” The ground at Wetherby, where officials will stage an inspection at 8am, was on Friday morning described as soft, heavy in places. However, 12-18mm of rain is forecast to fall before the days out, putting the fixture in jeopardy.
