Saturday the 8th March, the sun basking over London, hottest day - TopicsExpress

Saturday the 8th March, the sun basking over London, hottest day of the year so far and, according to some reports, warmer than the infamous White Island itself. The conditions were perfect, the crowds were gathering, this is what they come to see.. London Media running rugby. As usual, we arrived in our dribs and drabs to find our opponents (I, like Dave at the end of the game, struggle to remember their name) dressed in some rather fancy training tops playing a game of touch like it would be their last. As our full team assembled, Jonnie stubbed out his cigarette and we were ready to go. The warm up was good, we seemed up for it and within the first ten minutes we scored a couple of early trys (very un-media like) to take a 12-3 lead. A walk in the park perhaps? Anything but. Media then began to deflate like a tyre that has run over a thousand nails as Glynonians took control of the game, dominating the breakdown, winning quick ball and moving the ball up the field with ease. The infamous, ferocious, Media defence was nowhere to be seen and they soon raced into a 20-12 lead with five minutes to play in the first half. Under the posts some home truths were said and players were asked to look into the deepest darkest depths of their souls and ask themselves how much did they really want this? This was the game changing moment. From the kick off we turned them over and took the battle to them, using our strength and power to get closer and closer to their line, with an intensity any South African side would have been proud of. Alas, Glynonians were saved by the half time whistle but this did not matter. Media knew the game would be won as long as they continued to play with this ferocity. What came in the next forty minutes can best be summed up by the following definition – “warfare whereby an attacking force spearheaded by a dense concentration of armoured formations, and heavily backed up by close air support, forces a breakthrough into the enemys line of defence through a series of short, fast, powerful attacks” – Blitzkrieg. London Media threw everything, including the kitchen sink, at their opposition and produced a near perfect performance to score 22 unanswered points (4 trys) and completely destroyed any glimmer of hope Glynonians had of getting something from this game. The forwards carried the piano, and the backs played it to produce a stunning display in front of a packed out Battersea Park (attendance approx. 34 TBC) to take all 5 points. Trys: Jonnie, Benny, Gareth, George and Barnsey(2) Conversions: Dave (2) MOTM: Barnsey aka Joe Launchberry DOTD: Chris Arrowsmith – because your conversion attempt was the worst out of the lot! Think Beckham v Greece.
