Saturday with Calvary Assembly… Got up waaaaaaaaay too early (7am). Went and did ALL our laundry, please set to tune of violins playing, at the local laundromat (just over the road). Lovely little Queens type lady, who owned the business, kept me busy talking world politics. Enjoyed every second... At about 10am we headed out to an area affected by Hurricane Sandy last year, the Rockaways, by the beach. Our first port of call was a nursing home which had been flooded to the 5 foot level, residents being carried out on stretchers. I must confess, I havent set foot in a care facility like this since I visited my Granny in Castle Hill when I was 18 years old. Truthfully, the scents hit you pretty hard, forcing memories upon you in an instant. Our troupe belted out 3 of our regular songs: Let Creation Sing; At the Cross; and Te Doy Gloria. I was once again extremely proud of my crew for giving 1,000%, even though their audience were drooling, asleep and even heckling (later Sezni reported that he would never visit that place again. One old lady told him to shut-up 3 times, which he thought was strange as only people who love, know and respect a person use such foul language towards them...). The staff continued their work, almost as if we werent there. After the singing, we went and chatted with the residents. I had the delightful pleasure of meeting Dorothy Palmer, a Jewish lady, with lips painted just a little bit too big, and with fake beads to boot! She claimed to work as a talent scout in a busy Manhattan firm, which she owned. We chatted for a while, her offering me the lead role in a BIG Hollywood Blockbuster. I suggested that because I wasnt an actor, that perhaps it mightnt be the best career move for me. She then offered me the chance to be a model. I sat there just giggling along with her. She said that I could even do magazine shoots without my clothes on, if I had a good enough body. I told her I had love handles, it just wouldnt work. She said that she imagined me - I graciously stopped her there. Then she snapped, and started telling me how powerful she was, and how she was going to shut the joint down (the nursing home). She pointed at a large Italian lady (whose lips also didnt quite fit the paint), You see that creature with the big belly? She makes my life hell! She ran over my feet with her wheelchair 5 times and threw coffee in my face. I came in here singing and dancing 3 months ago, now Im in a wheelchair too! Shes evil, EVIL!!! The Italian lady she was referring to called out Has she drawn up your contract yet? Shes nuts, NUTS! My Jewish friend responded, Dont even look at her! She sits there all day, staring at me, stalking me, terrorizing me... I was a bit saddened at this point. I realised through talking with Dorothy, that she had no family and few friends. I guess people rarely came to visit her. I prayed with Dorothy, though my Jewish and Italian friends continued their screaming match over the top of my prayer. And then I left, her story weighing heavily on my heart. How is it that we live in a world with 7 billion people, and yet some feel so alone. In the afternoon we performed on the street in Queens. Brrrrrrrrr, freezing. I dont know how they did it, but once again, Stiven and Bboygut Jonny shone. Tonight I am both happy and sad. It has snowed for the first time, and the kiddies are LOVIN it! However, weve misplaced one of our bags which has all of our school supplies AND… MY GREEN PANTS! Theyre gone… Never coming back… TERMINATED!!! I am grief stricken, no words will console me, so dont even try... Night world!
