Saudi Arabia weekend now Friday-Saturday: royal order JEDDAH — Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah has today issued a royal order decreeing that Friday-Saturday should be the new weekend holidays. The original weekend in the Kingdom was Thursday-Friday. Accordingly, the order will be enforced Saturday, June 29, for all ministries, government departments, financial institutions as well as the Saudi Arabian Monetary Agency, the Capital Market Authority, and the Saudi Stock Exchange. For universities, schools, and other educational institutions, the order will be effective by the beginning of the next academic year 2013-2014. According to the royal order, this decision has been taken to better serve the Kingdom’s economic interests and help it meet its regional and global obligations in a way that benefits all citizens.
