Saudi envoy to the United Nations Abdullah al-Muallemi asked the UNSC on Wednesday to blacklist the Lebanese Hezbollah and add the group to its sanctions list. On Thursday, the resistance group condemned the Saudi demand, saying Hezbollah views the request by Riyadh as a service to the Tel Aviv regime. “The Saudi envoy’s remarks at the UN Security Council served Israel’s interests,” Hezbollah sources told al-Mayadeen television. “Hezbollah is a resistance movement and the Saudi envoy to the UN is trying to tarnish its image,” the sources said, adding, “The Saudi rhetoric has no practical value in light of the current balance of power inside the Security Council.” Riyadh’s call for listing Hezbollah as a terrorist group comes as the Saudi regime has been widely criticized for promoting extremist groups around the world. The Foreign Policy magazine recently reported that Saudi Arabia is training the foreign-backed militants in Syria as part of a new push to topple the government of President Bashar al-Assad. Hezbollah sources said Saudi Arabia’s “stance reflects the real disappointment of the Saudi leadership over the failure of its scheme in Syria.” presstv/detail/2014/11/20/386844/saudi-unsc-demand-sonic-bubble/
