Saul of Tarsus who became St.Paul was struck and fell off his horse and it changed his life. My decision to study for the priesthood was far less dramatic. Being 1A and eligible for the draft I had a few Journalism opportunities which vanished once the employers realized I could be drafted. My sister was a stock broker and secured a position for me at Werthheim brokerage. The head of the organization Bob Emmanuel was a wonderful man and decided he would groom me to work with high end clients. It was a phenomenal opportunity but inside my soul there was a yearning to be more involved in the service of others. I was not particularly religious but admired the compassion and service of the priests in my parish. One day I decided to confide my new found decision to Father Frank McNulty. He was rather surprised and counseled me to put a great deal of thought and prayer into the decision. My friends were stunned and having been a bit of a hell raiser at the Jersey Shore the prior summer they thought this was some kind of a joke. When I decided to enter the seminary they had a bash for me at my favorite haunt, Franks bar and grill. The party was filled with friends as well as members of the staff. For a few years this had been a second home and one of the presentations was a bar stool with my name on it. The speeches were funny as Tag was honored and roasted. I found out later there was a pool as to how long I would last. Shelia one of the waitresses won the pool with the bid of six weeks.
