Saulog: An evening with the Cebu Clergy Performing Artists Anyone who loves a good show will not be disappointed with the SAULOG CONCERT on Sunday, August 31, at the St. Genevieves Catholic Church (14061 Roscoe Blvd, Panorama City, CA 91402) starting at 7:00 p.m. A group of singing priests dubbed as the Cebu Clergy Performing Artists will be in town to reach out to our Filipino brothers and sisters there, who, because of their love for their families and their faith in Gods abiding presence, have risked their lives to seek for greener pastures in a foreign land, said an endorsement of the show signed by the Most Reverend Jose S. Palma, DD, Archbishop of Cebu. The head of the Catholic Church in Cebu who is also the president, Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines, added that the singing priests 2014 US-Canada tour would be a tribute to our very own Filipino Saint, Pedro Calungsod, who exemplified his great love and faith in God by reaching out to others sharing the Good News and sacrificing his own life for God. Saulog is Cebuano word for Celebration. A suggested $10 donation for an evening of fun wholesome entertainment will also go a long way to help a good cause. For tickets, please contact Danny, 323-252-4991 or Terri, 818-645-6068. An item in the Cebu Daily News mentions that these singing priests have already performed in several places and have gained popularity with their hilarious acts and comic singing style. In another article, they were praised for their well-blended voices and terpsichorean skills. The group consists of Reverend Fathers Arven Pretila, Rudy Ibale, Kipling Agravante, Zachary Zacarias, Joselito Gutierrez and Msgr. Guillermo Gorre. The San Fernando Valley leg of the current tour is coordinated by the Santo Nino De Cebu Association Of Southern California, Inc., the Mandaue Association of Southern California, Inc., and friends and supporters of the faith. Proceeds of the Saulog Concert will help rehabilitate some churches in the homeland damaged by the devastating earthquake not too long ago. Funds will also be sourced from it to renovate the seminary of the Archdiocese of Cebu in preparation for the 51st International Eucharistic Congress that it will host. According to a knowledgeable source the singing priests had already performed in Texas, Arizona and in Northern California. In Southern California, they had performed in the St. Michaels Church in San Diego on August 21 and 22. The next day at 7:00 pm they performed in the St. Marys Catholic Church in National City.
