Savannah is a rather generic label.... maybe this meme is listed under unbelievable-facts on tumblr because its so misleading and incomplete. A first generation Savannah cat, aka F1, is a hybrid 50% African serval (wildcat) and 50% domestic cat. So which 50% is more likely to emerge? If someones newly acquired F1 Savannah cat (which will be quite expensive) turns out not to behave like a dog, reaches 40 pounds, jumps eight feet high, and isnt cooperative to be leash trained, fetch, or use a litter box routinely.... then what?? What if that 50% wildcat is just a hybrid WILD CAT? (Subsequent generations of hybrids become less serval and more domestic. An F2, for example, is 25-35% serval. They also typically appear less like a serval and more like a domestic cat.) Ask any cat rescuer who has ever met and cared for an African serval or an F1 Savannah cat if the 50/50 odds are a good bet. We bet theyll say ABSOLUTELY NOT. Especially when there are literally millions of loving domestic cats who need and deserve a family to evade euthanasia - every single day in shelters everywhere.
