Save the Corcoran has had many good days in court over the past two weeks where the truth behind the Corcoran/NGA/GWU deal documents have been shared. Past trustee and leadership decisions about finances and relocation plans have seen the light of day. The unprofessional practices of an institution in crisis have been articulated. And experts have given their opinions on how the Corcoran can move forward into health and prosperity. Today, former Director of Development Anne Smith testified via subpeona to a very broken fundraising function at the Corcoran during her tenure. One that made her job to assist the board and director in raising funds impossible. Student Caroline Lacey testified that the Corcoran, as an independent institution, is amazing and should stay that way for many, many reasons. She stated the requests of the student council were repeatedly not satisfied by leaders and that there is no guarantee that after one year those entering her program will have the same instruction or curriculum or faculty. Both witnesses were far more articulate than is being conveyed here. Just know it was very good, moving, and clearly articulated that a cloudy plan of dissolution is not the way for the Corcoran to end her days. Tomorrow, we have closing arguments starting at 10am. Each party gets one hour. We should conclude by 1pm. The judge has promised to rule in a timely fashion but he could take days/weeks to issue a ruling but he will make a decision before school starts Aug. 24th.
