Save the Date! May 17th Lyme in the South Music Fest at River City Brewing Company in Jacksonville, Florida The Florida Lyme Disease Association is currently in the process of planning a Lyme in the South Music Fest to take place in Jacksonville on May 17, 2014. We are working with Gregg Kirk, who planned a similar event in the Northeast last year, the Alabama Lyme Disease Association, the Georgia Lyme Disease Association, the Northeast Florida Lyme Association, a representative of Florida Lyme League and other groups in the region. We have also garnered the support of National Capital Lyme and PAL. This event will provide the framework for other events in the South (they are hoping to do a tour in the future). The planned agenda includes: 3-4 local/regional well-known bands plus (hopefully) a national headlining act Keynote speaker Katina Makris (author of Out of the Woods and host of LymeLight radio) 1-2 famous Lyme Literate Medical Doctors as speakers Raffle, silent auction, and walk/run event (NEFLA has a walk/run slated for May 3rd) Education area, featuring 4-5 tables for Lyme brochures, books, doctor consults, T-shirts, CD sales, etc. We have a conservative budget in part because I have dear friends who are providing a great venue at no cost. River City Brewing Company is located on the Southbank of the St. Johns River, with a large outside deck and stage area facing the Jacksonville skyline. rivercitybrew I also have a local friend who agreed to contribute printed materials at cost. I would absolutely love for members of the Lyme Community to rally together to support this cause to spread Lyme Disease awareness in the state. Ways to help include the following - Manpower support on the day of the event Attending the event Spreading the word with friends, family and loved ones Contacting media outlets to run stories about the event (and Lyme generally) Making monetary donations to support the event Helping to find sponsors Personally donating or procuring donations for the silent auction items (i.e. travel items, regional sports memorabilia, national chains for food/services, etc.) Encouraging state politicians to attend the event Helping to identify bands with strong regional appeal that would be willing to perform at little or no cost We are open to any suggestions and thank you in advance for your support.
