Savoie named French Food Fest Grand Marshal XXXVII Ted Savoie, the son of Sidney and Mathilde Savoie, was raised in Galliano, was a graduate of Larose-Cut Off High School and attended Delgado Trade School. Ted was not a stranger to the boat business because his father began his training as a rider when Ted was six years old. As he got older, his mentors became the captains of other boats. Deckhand, Mate, and Captain were all jobs Ted Savoie had until 1967 when he was taken into the office operations with United Tugs, Inc. working as personnel manager, port captain and runner. In 1980, Ted Savoie, Larbow Cheramie, and John Trosclair formed Central Gulf Towing, LLC and operate a fleet of tugboats. Ted Savoie has always been a part of community organizations and held membership in South Lafourche Jaycees, South Lafourche Chamber of Commerce (serving as its first president), Holy Rosary School Board, Holy Rosary Church Council, Houma-Thibodaux Diocesan School Board, and Larose Regional Park & Civic Center. Married to Jane Callahan Savoie for 51 years, Ted and Jane are the proud parents of 4 children: Sonya Savoie Bussola, Simonne Savoie Golden, Sidney Savoie, and Stephanie Savoie Hopkins. Ted Savoie, a long-time volunteer at Larose Regional Park & Civic Center, stated, “I remember attending the very first Bouillabaisse festival on the grounds at LCO High School and have attended many festivals since then. I have served as construction worker, booth worker, event volunteer, board member, booth sponsor, and have worked in the fair’s bank for many years. “Although we have a beautiful building, large grounds, recreational areas, and provide many services to the community, the most amazing accomplishment of the Bayou Civic Club is how it has brought the community together for several decades. “My thanks go out to the people that had the foresight and dreams to make this organization and this facility possible. My other thanks are for the many hundreds of volunteers both past and present that have given countless hours to make the Bayou Civic Club and the French Food Festival the success that it is today. “It is my privilege and honor to serve as Grand Marshal XXXVII on behalf of the Bayou Civic Club, the many volunteers and to follow in the footsteps of the past Grand Marshals.”
