Saw The Maze Runner on Friday night. The film itself was actually pretty good if yet another addition to the adolescent SF dystopia trend, with an intriguing if somewhat maddening conceit (ie they cant simply climb out), some scary and tense moments and decent acting. Two other things were notable: the cinema was jam packed with target audience teen girls at the 6.30pm screening; and the film ends with a declaration that theres a part two to come, the story hanging on a reveal thatll presumably come in parts 2 & 3. The victory of multi-part genre cinema is complete, the line between TV and cinema evaporating in the intense heat of coordinated marketing and multiplatform releases.
