Saw a GREAT movie yesterday: Whiplash. J.K. Simmons is a strong contender for the supporting Oscar this year as a music teacher who pushes his students over the edge. Intense would be the best way to describe this tale of a young drummer who falls under the spell of the manic instructor. Exciting and harrowing would be a few other ways. When they say a musician puts blood, sweat and tears into his work.....in Whiplash they mean it literally. This movie does what I think all great films about music should do....make you feel the love and dedication the artist has for their artistry.
