Saw a good movie on Showtime the other night ...Quartet with Maggie Smith and Pauline Collins (of Downton Abbey fame) directed by Dustin Hoffman. It is about a retirement home (Mansion) for musicians & opera singers. Every year they give a gala to raise money to keep the retirement home afloat. Maggie Smith has reluctantly moved into the home . And being a former great diva, refuses to stoop to participating in the Gala ....causing many of the inhabitants much grief. The cast also includes many real life opera singers .....The music and singing is wonderful. This picture was nominated for a Golden Glove in 2012...Maggie Smith was nominated for Best Performance, Billy Connolly, nominated for best supporting actor by Britich Independent Film Awards, Dustin Hoffman, director won an Audience Choice award from Chicago International Film Festival for Best narrative feature, several other nominations and Won the Best Top 10 Independent Films from the Natinal Board of Review, USA 2012.
