Sayang na buhay... A hero Brit whos only 45 years old has drowned while saving his Filipina partners 10-year-old son and their dog from a swollen river during a family holiday. Mark Selby was reportedly swimming with his partner, Mary Anne, and her two sons in the Balanac River in Laguna when the eldest boy was suddenly dragged into strong currents in the Philippines. Selby, according to reports, have gone in after the boy and managed to get him. The boy then clung onto Selbys shoulders and he was later on taken by a lifeguard from a nearby resort. Selby then proceeded to go after the boys dog, Molly, and also managed to push the dog towards the shore. However, the strong current must have swept Selby away as he had suddenly disappeared underwater, despite his being a strong swimmer. His lifeless body was recovered from the water near Pagsanjan in Laguna; shortly after the tragic incident on December 29. Selby, a father of one, was a computer programmer, as disclosed by his sister, Debbie Poulter, 46. She said, He was very skilled, very clever when it came to computers - his job took him all over the world. Selby was from Stroud, Gloucestershire and moved out to work in Manila; where he met Mary Anne. Selby returned to Britain before Christmas for a brief visit and then he reportedly flew back out to South East Asia on December 22, with the intent to live permanently with Mary Anne. His sister Debbie said: He had gone back over to the Philippines on the 22nd of December; decided to go back to buy a house with Mary Anne and her children. Shes lovely and he was so happy. I think they had gone on holiday together. Theyd gone to this resort for a few days. She added, He died saving the others. Selby and Mary Anne were enjoying a holiday with her two sons, whose names were withheld, at the Villa Socorro Agri-Eco Village and Farm Resort around 50 miles from Manila, reports Mirror Co Uk. An investigation into his death is being conducted by the National Bureau of Investigation. On Selbys online work profile, he posted that: Away from the computer you will likely find me climbing volcanoes, riding horses, swimming, boat riding, cycling, cooking, scuba diving, sampling beer or sleeping.
