Scales? Yep…. I find that word almost as offensive as the C word (Cardio)…. In fact, I haven’t owned a set of scales (& nor have I weighed myself outside of my final weeks of comp prep) in YEARS…. Quite frankly, I refuse to validate my worth based on a freaking number, & instead on how revitalized I am, how healthy I look & how strong I feel. I see firsthand (on the daily) just how detrimental weighing oneself too frequently can be & how NORMAL daily fluctuations in weight can literally drive people insane. Your body weight can (& very often does) change as a result of a loss or gain in muscle, fat, water, glycogen, poop, food intake & more. That means daily fluctuations in body weight (plus extra monthly fluctuations for women) are extremely common/NORMAL. Hell, even when you know there are other factors influencing your scale weight every day, just seeing that number fail to move (or move in the wrong direction) can still get into your head and lead to all sorts of problems (making unnecessary changes, depression, eating disorders, etc.). So, do yourself a favour, & step away from the scale! Better yet - put them away, give them away or simply throw them out! “Weight” is more than just fat or muscle & “weight” alone tells us nothing about the composition of that weight! So why place your entire mental state in the hands of a resource that offers you VERY limited info when used on its own? Use the tool as PART of a measurement strategy, NOT as your entire compass for happiness.... Your worth more than the number staring back at you!
