Scampi and Taffy have always had problems with their paws. They lick and chew on them persistently. At its worst, Scampi can chew very hard till it bleeds within seconds, and he will continue to chew or lick. This problem is only at their paws, no where else. Scampi did an allergy test before but it did not yield any results. He does not have thyroid problems either. They have been checked out to not have fungal problems, yeast, or any bacteria. Both Scampi and Taffy have tried everything available out there in terms of creams, gels, hydrocortisone, mushers, etc. They also tried all sorts of antihistamines. Nothing has worked. Both were also put on hypoallergenic (allergen free) food. It has not stopped the problem. The only medication which has any effect is steroid based which is no good for them and cannot be taken for any long periods. Scampi and Taffy both use booties now when they go out for walks. However if it rains heavily we cant use them (and it does rain a lot where we are). They are always cleaned with baby wipes, dried, and powdered after every walk.
