Scan Results: Yesterday I sat down with my doctor and discussed my latest scan results. Generally it was pretty good news. It seems as if the cancer is behaving and we are not seeing any definitive growth or new spots. The bone scan picked up two new suspicious spots on my left and right ribs, but it is too early too tell and can be something else, we’ll just have to wait and see. My suspicion is that the bone scan picked up something in my ribs after being strapped very tightly in a car racing harness for two days the weekend before and I am not too worried for now. We do however continue to see additional scarring and calcification form on my right lung. This seems to be the likely cause of the coughing I am struggling with as well as the chest pain coming and going. Thinking back, when I was originally diagnosed I was in the hospital with fluid build up that was collapsing my right lung. They then did a procedure where they chemically burned the outside of my whole right lung as well as the inside of my pleura. These were then pressed together by inflating the lung under pressure. As a result, scar tissue formed that bound the lung to the pleura in order to leave no space left for fluid to accumulate. This surgery is sometimes done to provide symptomatic relief to late stage lung cancer patients with a limited life expectancy left (2-6 months). Well, now here I am after almost a year and a half later and seeing some of the long term results. We’ll just medically have to control it. I would say it’s a good problem to have ;-) Treatment wise it means that I will remain on the Alectinib trial here locally until we see definitive growth. Hopefully that is a looong time from now!
