Scarborough Thunder Minor Football Association in the community. #GivingBack Today, Friday, August 8th the Scarborough Thunder Minor Football Association (SMFA) presented almost 1 ton of non-perishable food and a cheque in the amount of $2550 to the Agincourt Community Services Association. Scarborough Thunder volunteers collected the food and financial donations from minor football fans during the recent Ontario Minor Football League (OMFL) championships. The OMFL traditionally has requested that fans bring non-perishable food (or cash) to the stadium entrance gate rather then charge fans a set admission fee. When Scarborough Thunder was confirmed as the organizer of this years food drive the search for a fitting recipient began. Agincourt Community Services has outstanding programs serving the needs of the greater Scarborough area. We could not think of a more appropriate or deserving organization for this years proceeds. Agincourt Community Services Association (ASCA) is a non-profit, multi-service agency at the heart of Agincourt. It addresses the needs of and empowers children, youth, newcomers, homeless and under served communities. Since 1974, ACSA has provided a broad range of programs and services to the local community and the greater Scarborough area. ACSA celebrates 40 years in the community with an emphasis on providing people hand up services not hand outs. Our services include community supports, youth programs, homeless services, food bank and food security initiatives, newcomer and settlement services, child and family programs, community development and engagement initiatives, civic engagement work and information and referral services for all of Scarborough. For more information visitagincourtcommunityservices SMFA would like to thank Bristol Truck Rentals at Woodbine Avenue in Markham for donating the truck to us. SMFA would also like to thank the Scarborough Mirror for spending the morning with us to witness how youth sports and community groups can partner up.
