Scarlet Ribbons (for her hair). This is 17 H x 22 W, on gray Stonehenge paper with mostly prismacolor pencils, with a few Luminance. This drawing is dedicated to my dad, Bob Martin. When my sisters and I were growing up, my dad used to sing to us often, in a beautiful, rich voice that sounded very much like Dean Martin. The song that was our favorite, was Scarlet Ribbons. I tear up every time I hear it sung or even think of it. This drawing was created for our family and is a very personal drawing. I doubt anyone else outside of our family would get it just by looking at it (what the heck? a young lady with ribbons on her pillow?), but it was drawn for us. The Martins. Our dad is in his late 80s now, almost blind, with a bad heart, but he remains as strong as the dad we grew up with, with the beautiful soothing voice. Scarlet Ribbons (for her hair) The music was written in 1949 by Evelyn Danzig and the lyrics by Jack Segal I peeked in to say good-night When I heard my child in prayer And for me, some scarlet ribbons Scarlet ribbons for my hair All our stores were closed and shuttered All the streets were dark and bare In our town, no scarlet ribbons Scarlet ribbons for her hair Through the night my heart was aching Just before the dawn was breaking I peeked in and on her bed In gay profusion lying there Lovely ribbons, scarlet ribbons Scarlet ribbons for her hair If I live to be two hundred I will never know from where Came those ribbons, scarlet ribbons Scarlet ribbons for her hair
