Scene 179 Pastor: “This is meant to be a short ceremony just to bind the two of you together then sign the marriage certificate, since Mr Mpinga cannot go to court.” Ntsika: “We understand that and time is really against us.” Pastor: “Okay, I will get straight to the point. Ntsika Mpinga, do you take Yoliswa Ngxaki as your lawfully wedded wife, in sickness and in health, for richer or for poorer, for better or worse?” Dumi: “Hayi! Waze wajaha lo mfundisi!” Us All: “Shh!” Dumi: “Ai! Nyahlanya nonke.” Ntsika: “I do.” Pastor: “Yoliswa Ngxaki, do you take Ntsika Mpinga as your lawfully wedded husband, in sickness and in health, for richer or for poorer, for better or worse?” Meh: “I do.” Pastor: “The rings.” Nqubeko gave us each a ring for the other, then we put them in our fingers. I really loved mine, it was so huge, it took the first 2/3 of my finger. It had small shiny stones surrounding a big, platinum rock. I could tell by the way it shone, it was just beautiful. Pastor: “I know pronounce you husband and wife, you may now kiss the bride.” Sphe: “Oi! Oiii!” Nomvelo: “Lilililililililili!” We looked at each other and first smiled then we kissed. It was kinda sad cause he could only hold meh with one hand! :-/ :( After the kiss, we signed the marriage certificate then Nomvelo took it and put it safely in her bag since I was only carrying only my purse. Pastor: “Sorry, but I have got to run.” Meh: “Bye Pastor!” We waved at him as he waved back and left. Dumi: “Kwamnandi, kwanjeyaya! Kuph ukudla?” Ntsika: “Ukudla kwani wena? Mawvakashele mina uyakthola ukudla?” Dumi: “Kanti umuntu ungene kaMr Price ka-Anele, waswenka impela waconsa, ezozwa umfundisi ozobuza umbuzo esesyazi impendulo yawo? Yehheni madoda! WePhelo, nawe ubuyazi le nto yokuthi akdliwa klo mshado?” Sph: “Hhayi, ngabe ngdlala ngawe ngempela mfwethu. Sizoythini ngempela le ndaba?” Babalwa: “Anidinwa na nina? Nithetha throughout the day, anidinwa?” Sphe: “Awuzwe-ke lo ebheda, wena awkhathali ukntshontsha njengoba sesizontshontsha u-ten mill...” Ntsika: “Kodwa Thixo! Khawthule maan Sphephelo!” Meh: “Uthi ktheni Sphe?” I really cant believe this, I really thought they were gonna stop this nonsense and just take my advice. Sphe: “Hhayi, angshongo lutho mina.” Meh: “Oh, so youll steal R10 million ngoku?” Khetha: “Angikho lapho mina.” Meh: “Oh, okay! So the four of you, or bazoklinda nawe Ntsika ude uphume apha?” Ntsika: “Hayi, andiy apho mna.” Dumi: “Awumbheke uyasdayisa! Hhe ndoda, sinawe la! Noma wena ubungeke uncozule vele?” Ntsika: “Ndidiniwe ngoku, Yoliswa khawundncede ndihlale phantsi.” I looked at him then helped him out. I didnt wanna argue, especially not today! Meh “Nibadala xa ningaka, so I wont control you. Xa nifun ukweba more, then go ahead. Anditsho bhuti, nibadala?” Nqubeko: “Ewe kodwa sifun ukba sibe ne-capital eninzi, uyayqonda? Sonqena i-loan wethu.” Meh: “Okay, fine.” Babalwa: “So singayenza?” Meh: “Babalwa, besendtshilo njena, nibadala. Its not like nizondmamela anyway. Uhm, please give us some time.” Sphe: “Yin engathi uyasshwabulela nje?” Meh: “Hayi, ayikho njalo.” Sphe: “Ohho.” They all went out. I sat down, facing Ntsika who was sitting on his wheelchair. Meh: “Ndijong emehlweni.” He looked straight into my eyes. “Ubomi obu, uyabuthanda? Uyazthanda xa uhlel apho?” Ntsika: “Hayi sthandwa sam.” Meh: “Nam andiythandi loonto kodwa njengomfazi wakho, I have to stand by you, anditsho?” Ntsika: “Ewe, kodwa anditsho ukbana you have to support this. As my wife, you have to tell meh when Im wrong.” Meh: “Kodwa uyazazi njena xa u-wrongo, kutheni ufun ukxelelwa ndim usazi?” He looked away. “I thought so. Mamela, Im not going to judge you or anything like that, kodwa ndicel uzicingele, ucingele nosapho lwethu qha. Thats all Im asking. Uyazi kakhle ukba the doctors had to shock you to bring you back to life, your heart stopped beating Ntsika, kodwa ingathi wena awyazi loonto and you dont care.” Ntsika: “I do care.” Meh: “You dont.” I so wanted to tell him about my involvement in the death of Babalwas gang, but I didnt wanna spoil this day for him and I any further. I got up and he held my hand. Ntsika: “Ngoku undqumbele?” Meh: “For better, for worse, remember?” He smiled and someone opened the door, it was that Nhlanzeko chick, yuuu! I felt like throwing up right there. Ntsika turned his wheelchair to see who it was and he blocked his face as soon as he saw her. Ntsika: “Ufunani la?” Nhlanzeko: “Angzile ngalokhu okcabangayo bandla! Zukisa!” She shouted and a young girl, about Vuyiswas age entered, holding a baby wrapped with blankets. I looked at Ntsika as he opened his eyes wide. Ntsika: “Zukisa!” Zukisa: “Molo Ntsika.” Nhlanzeko: “Oh, so uyamazi yena nengane yakho?” Ntsika: “Intoni?” Zukisa: “Ewe, ngumntanakho lo, uNontsikelelo.” Ntsika looked at meh, I looked at him too and shook my head as tears fell from my eyes. Ntsika: “Yoliswa...” I walked out and slammed the door behind meh.
