Scene Lights up on a hospital bed. In it lies a man in a coma. His son is next to him slumped in a chair looking intensley at this father. The television is playing Looney Toons, but on mute. The Doctor enters Doc: How ya doin today? Son: *sigh* Im ok. Tired. This... is...*sigh* very tiring. Just hoping he wakes up. (he stands and walks over to the bed). I keep talking to him like you suggested, but...nothing. Doc: Hmmm....(looks at the father in bed, then to the TV). Mel? Mel? Can You hear me? (takes his hand) Mel if you can hear me squeeze my hand. (pause. no response) Mel, this is Dr. Martin. If you can hear me, squeeze my hand. ( no response) Son: (tearing up a bit but not trying to show it)...do you think hell come out of it? Doc: I dont know that now. I dont want to get your hopes up, well just have to keep monitoring him. (taking Mels hand again) Mel, if you can hear me, squeeze my hand. (no response) Doc: hmm....(looks at the TV. The Bugs Bunny sketch Barber of Seville is on)....I wonder. Bugs.....Bugs can you hear me? Bugs. Can you hear me? (no response) (looking at the son) Doc: Ill be back later today to see how hes doing Son: Thanks (Doc puts his hand on the sons shoulder. Gives a comforting smile and turns to walk out the room. As he reaches the door...) Mel: Ehh...whats up Doc? (Doc and son look at each other) Scene
