Scene from a book within my book. Fire and Ice, Chapter Three "Enchanted" “Not enjoying the party?" “The party is fine," Annora said. "My father has spent much money on assuring that his servants feel at home." “Yet, they are still referred to as servants." “Annora tilted her head and stared at the mysterious young man for quite some time before speaking. "You are a servant," she stated. “I am." He stuck out his hand. She placed her fingers on top of his palm and he bent over to kiss them. "My name is Ignis." “You already know who I am," Annora said. “That would be impossible," he replied. "I only just met you. How could I know you?" “I meant—" “I know what you meant," Ignis interjected with a smile. "Still, I have no idea who you are. The king does most of the talking. Yet, everyone sees you as the flawless hope for a continuous world of peace. When the king steps down, you will take his place and provide the same security we have had since the royal government was set in place all of those centuries ago." “For a servant, you seem to have quite a take on how this world is ran," Annora said. "I am concerned because it sounds as though you do not have a positive opinion." “We are not all so lucky to be a goddess and have the finest things." Annora laughed. "You want it? Take it. I assure you, it is not as great as it does seem." “I would think not. Power is an ugly thing." “Why do you say so?" Annora asked. “History proves that power can turn the noblest men on a dark path." “You speak of Queen Zelecka, my ancestor. Do you not?" “I do. She was murdered by her lover who was not her king." “At least they had passion," Annora said, leaning up against the railing. Ignis chuckled. "He murdered her and yet you are jealous?" “Nothing is more terrible to me than a boring life." “Then what are you waiting for?" “Excuse me?" Annora tilted her hand, curious by the expression Ignis was giving her. “Let us leave this party and have an adventure." Annora stared out upon the city before. "Yes. Let us.”
