Schab story: SO, since the first couple videos are up, Ill include the story for another time regarding the request to come to Chicago after that tryout video for Making the Band got me a spot on a real audition at the Hard Rock Chicago. When I showed up, I was obviously nervous, and really didnt know what I was doing there in the first place, but I shook it off...I checked in and was given a number...The place was a zoo...about 800 applicants showed up. You can see the audition area upstairs where lighting was set up and microphone stood in front of a table, where judges sat, one being the owner of the Backstreet Boys and Nsync at the time...Anyway, I decide to wander around. My number was like 650 so I was excited that I had plenty of time to figure this out and give it a shot because I would be able to see everyone go before me and see what not to do. That all went to shit when someone showed up and told me I would be going 10th...yeah...10th...(cue panic)...........I watched as the first 9 applicants went...and many did a great job, although some were dramatic...we were asked to do the following: sing a song from a list acapella, since a song to music, and finally dance to a song. So I watched this go on for 9 different sets...everyone choosing to do something different than the next. Worried is probably an understatement at that point...and then, those words: Number 10, youre up, lets go!.......(Ohhhh...shiiiitttt)...I wandered over up the stairs and over to the microphone. There were 3 judges, and the one in the middle was the owner of I think Continental Records at the time......I stood there..at the mike...and it seemed like time stopped for that couple minutes...Whats your name? Michael Schab.....Hi Mike! They continued: Mike, we are going to run out of time doing all this for all the people here, so instead of all that, we just want to hear your voice...so instead of picking a song off our list, just sing anything you want. Anything they said...Suddenly, the 5 choices originally on their list was drowned out in my head...I started searching for anything that might give me an advantage over the other competition. What could it be? Then they said Ready when you are!?.................I thought for what felt like an eternity...and the longer I took the more panic started to set in that I was taking too long...PICK any song...I must have filtered through at least 50 in my head, before my lips decided to step in and do this all on their own..........The first thing, that left my lips...was..... (I still dont believe it by the way)...the first thing to leave my lips was... PERCUSSION....(in sebastians voice)..............................................STRINGS!............Winds......>WOrddsss.......................I think at this particular point is where my mind checked out, and was like...youre on your own buddy...why....wHY that one....LOL...annnd in Sebastians voice nonetheless..........................I came to when it was all over.......I am pretty sure I even cut the song short cause I forgot the words when I started to realize what I was singing, and where I was, and who I was singing in front of...............................BUT THE comedy of it all...I still cant believe it...but the story is there forever...I thanked them, and they thanked me back....and everyone was smiling...I wandered off and followed the exit signs...I left the building out the side entrance and stood there for a second to take in the sun...and to think about what just happened...I pretty much kept laughing the whole way out knowing how much effort went into this, and then to do THAT.........well...............PRICELESS.........and since that song is on one of the original clips, Ill never forget it...ever...lol...and I am positive you wont let me forget it either...lol
