Schalke to sign highly-rated young German midfielder FC Schalke 04 have agreed a deal with VfL Bochum to bring highly-rated midfielder Leon Goretzka to the Veltins Arena. The Royal Blues’ sporting director Horst Heldt met with his Bochum counterpart Christian Hochstätter on Sunday to discuss the proposed transfer. Horst Heldt said: “We went to Bochum with the aim of reaching a mutual agreement. We’re all very pleased that we’ve managed to do that and we’re looking forward to having Leon Goretzka, one of the biggest talents in Germany, playing for FC Schalke 04.” The deal hasn’t officially gone through yet with the paperwork still to be filled. That is expected to happen in the coming days. 18-year old Leon Goretzka is a German under-19 international who played 32 2. Bundesliga games for VfL Bochum last season, scoring 4 goals; his debut season as a professional footballer. The soon-to-be Schalke 04 player has been labelled by some as the ‘new Michael Ballack’ and offers their fans with extra optimism ahead of the 2013-14 season. Schalke 04 have already completed the deals of Felipe Santana, Christian Clemens and Adam Szalai this summer. Jens Keller’s side will compete in the qualifying stage of next season’s Champions League.
