Schola Cantorum conducted by Martin Berger & Steinkjer Kammerkor conducted by Rudolf de Beer A long tradition of choral music performance at the Stellenbosch Konservatorium has taken on an international flavor since the arrival of renowned German choir conductor, Martin Berger last year. Whilst immersing himself in the local music scene – patrons will remember the Woordfees production Karoonagte - Die Afrikaanse Lied, and the recent production Waternight – Choral Music from the two hemispheres of the world that both played to a packed Endler Hall. Berger has also been responsible for the special collaboration with Mainz University in bringing us the Bach B minor Mass. The Endler Concert Series concert on Saturday 11 October at 20:00 will present another such collaboration featuring our very own Schola Cantorum, conducted by Berger himself as well as the Steinkjer Kammerkor from Norway, conducted by Rudolf de Beer. For those who do not know Norwegian music, choral music provides the best introduction possible. The human voice is undoubtedly the most beautiful musical instrument in existence and where as instrumental music may delve into the abstract and unconventional playing techniques, choral music tends to simply focus on the sublime beauty of vocal sound. The programme includes works by works by wellknown composers like Grieg, Gardiner, Vaughan Williams, Villiers and Lloyd Webber as well as various Norwegian composers. Tickets are available for R110 and R80 at the door.
