Scholar: Imam Abu Haneefah Imam Abu Haneefah was born in Kufa, Iraq and was the founder of the Hanafi school of fiqh. When running an errand he passed the home of as-Shabi who mistook him for a student and asked whose classes he attended. Abu Hanifa responded that he did not attend classes. Shabi advised him he should sit in the company of learned men. Taking Shabis advice Abu Hanifa followed his quest for knowledge and learned Quran and Hadith.
