Scholar in Residence Shabbat November 8-9, 2013 Congregation Agudat Achim 268 Washington St., Leominster Our visiting scholar this year will be Rabbi Marvin Tokayer. Rabbi Tokayer lived in Japan as a USAF chaplain and, for twelve years, as the Rabbi of the Jewish Community of Japan, serving not only his Tokyo congregants but Jews throughout much of the Far East including Shanghai and Singapore. He is the author of 30 books, many of them in Japanese, on Judaica and Japan. Friday, at an Oneg Shabbat following 6:30 pm erev Shabbat services, Rabbi Tokayer will speak on“Pepper, silk and ivory—the exotic Jews of China, Japan and India” Saturday at a Kiddush luncheon following 9:30 am Shabbat services Rabbi Tokayer will speak on “The heroic escape to China and Japan during the Holocaust—the Fugu plan.” Saturday evening at 7:30 Rabbi Tokayer will join us as we screen the PBS documentary “Sugihara: Conspiracy of Kindness”.
