School Improvement Update - 22/11/2013 Dear Parents, Attendance week was very successful and we saw a rise in attendance across the school. If we can do it during attendance week, lets try and raise the attendance every week. As we all know, there is a direct link to attendance and achievement and progress. I know that all our parents want their children to do well at school, so please make sure your child attends school every day and just as important, on time! This week some of the teachers visited a school in Bristol who are very successful with the Talk for Writing project. We were able to share lots of our good practice and also take away lots of ideas that we will be implementing in our school to help improve the progress of our children’s writing. Maths is still a priority for our whole school improvement drive. Next week we are having a ‘ magical maths’ fun day. Mrs.Horne and the maths team have worked very hard to plan an exciting day for the children, which will allow them to put lots of their maths skills into practice. The Sports coaches are already having a positive impact in school. There are many different clubs and sporting competitions that the children can take part in. We have already won a Football trophy; keep your eyes open for our new display cabinet that we hope to fill with trophies and shields. As a school we offer a variety of Clubs and booster sessions. If your child is fortunate to attend one of these please ensure that your child attends regularly and that you are able to pick them up on time. As educationalists we regularly observe each other’s practice. During the next week teachers will be observing colleagues in school, suggesting improvements and recognising good practice that can be shared. The Parents’ forum takes place every month, Please try and attend and have your opinions heard. It is an opportunity for you to hear about new initiatives in school and the priorities in school. This week the children in school have been learning about famous people to celebrate Black History month. Lots of the children’s work is on the school website. Please ask your children to tell you about Black history month and the work they have been doing in class. We know it is important to prepare our children for the next stage of their education. Pupils from Golden Hillock School will be running a club for our children next month. We are also very lucky to be able to use the swimming pool at King Edwards Grammar school. We are also hoping that some of their students will be coming to run a science club for our pupils. The next Parent Forum is on Friday 13th December at 9.00 a.m. to demonstrate the school website.
