School Zone Traffic Safety Meeting TONIGHT, May 29th Neighbors and parents: It’s time to take action to ensure the safety of our children and residents by getting the City to address the speed of traffic on Fruitridge and Seamas Roads. Come to a meeting with the chiefs of staff for City Councilman Hansen and Councilman Schenirer and City transportation officials to make them aware of our concerns and discuss strategies for making this corridor safer. When:TONIGHT, Thursday May 29th, 6:00pm Where: Sutterville Preschool*, 5520 Gilgunn Way (corner of Gilgunn and Fruitridge) *Please note this is not the preschool on the Sutterville Elementary campus. Problem: • Between Cabrillo Elementary School and Monterey Way – a distance of ¾ mile – there are 3 schools (Cabrillo Elementary, Chinese Learning Tree, Sutterville Preschool) 2 parks, a library, community center, Park Terrace Swim and Tennis Club and the Chinese Community Church. Additional children and traffic from Sam Brannon Middle School and Sutterville Elementary are only a block north. • For the 3 schools on Fruitridge/Seamas, only one school – Cabrillo – has a school zone with a 25 mph speed designated. • The speed changes 3 times within this ¾ mile distance. • There has been no enforcement of any of these speeds. • The city put up a speed monitoring device in 2013 and found a significant number of vehicles exceeded all 3 speed limits and some traveled as fast as 60 mph. If you’re unable to attend, please email or call and express your concerns to the Councilmen: • Steve Hansen: 808-7004, [email protected] • Jay Schenirer: 808-7005, [email protected]
