Schumanns Album for the Young #30 is similar to the Traumerie in that notes are released and held for different counts to create shifting harmonies. Release the B-flat, hold onto the F, play an E-flat, viola a F-major seventh chord. When I learned the Traumerei, I was quite sloppy with this technique, realizing a few months in that I was holding and releasing a lot of notes at the wrong time. Now with the #30, Im taking the time to puzzle it out right away, even if it is a half hour per measure. How about you?
