Science & Spirit CHAPTER 16 - Mindspace Mind over matter is the idea that we are able to manipulate the reality around us through the belief that such manipulation is possible. Similar philosophies include the power of prayer, and voodoo. Rene Descartes proposed the concept that the reality to which we are accustomed is not guaranteed to be authentic, in that all we received via electrical signals of the brain may conceivably be generated artificially, and we would not be able to recognize the difference. Were our reality in actuality the projection of a dream, in which what we know to be real becomes real, then should we perceive reality to be different, then reality itself, not only our perception of it, could change as well. In essence, the ultimate illusion, cast upon oneself. Mindspace. Mindspace is existence a place within the mind between fantasy and reality in which we are able to reprogram the reality of us. A space of lucidness in which we use our imagination to rewrite our own software, but only when able to convince our self of what we imagine, what we believe, is absolutely true. Within ourselves, this includes using our spiritual energy to manipulate our physical and mental process. Using this form of willpower, we are able to heal ourselves faster, provide our selves extra strength, overcome fatigue, and limit the sensations of pain, and changes in temperature. We may even overcome our own psychological shortcomings, such as manually willing to overcome sadness and anger, removing them from our psyche. Although these changes may be seem temporary at first, we are only limited to what we can believe. Outside ourselves, we have the potential to influence reality around us. We may be able to project the same effects on to others, giving strength, healing, removing fatigue, or causing pain. Stepping further, we enter the possibility of kinesis, the ability to move or manipulate external objects or ourselves. These exist in both the micro terms, what occurs at the atomic level, as well as a macro, what can be seen with the naked eye. It made refer to the manipulation of the forces of nature, gravity, electromagnetism, strong and weak nuclear forces on scales undetectable via modern instruments, or on grander scales, such as levitation or teleportation. The limitations of the abilities of our mind and spirit are maintained by our ability to believe. Seeing is not believing, believing is seeing.
