Science & Spirit CHAPTER 9 - Chakras Meditation heals and strengthens the mind just as exercise and rest heal and strengthen the body. Meditation allows one to clear the mind and focus on the present, to let go of the past and to not dwell on the future. It opens the mind to focus on a single task and frees the mind of busy work to allow energy for complex subconscious calculations. To begin, focus only on your breathing. Breathe slowly and evenly, as if calm waves crashing on a beach. Become fully aware of yourself, your body, inside and out. Focus on what you will learn about yourself, on what you feel within yourself. Try to sense the natural and spiritual energy flowing through your body. To build up your focus, try walking meditation. This technique allows you to focus solely on the task at hand by concentrating only on what you are doing, such as “Im walking”. This technique allows you to remove distractions which cloud the mind and be more prepared for an unexpected variable. To build up your concentration, try to perfect your balance. Once you can remove the small movements of the body, you will be able to find your center without distraction. As you learn about your body through meditation, you will be able to sense the life force within. Chakra is the vital energy force running through all life. This spiritual energy is used in every aspect of life, from the physical uses such as healing and physical exertion, to spiritual uses such as sensory abilities. There traditionally exist 7 vital energy points within the human body that must be able to flow freely in order to achieve optimal health and energy output. Each energy point can be imagined as a separate pool among a connected spiritual stream. These pools become blocked over time through the buildup of negative energy, and releasing them will allow greater spiritual potential. Survival is the first chakra, located at the base of the spine. Survival is the key priority in life, and is blocked by fear. Imagine breathing energy into the base of your spine, admit your fears, and overcome them. Pleasure is the second chakra, located just below the navel. Pleasure is a natural and most beautiful aspect of life, but is blocked by guilt. Breathe energy into the space below the navel and imagine what you are guilty of. See what the guilt has done to you, how you will grow from it in the future, and forgive yourself. Confidence is the third chakra, located in the stomach. Confidence is the belief in yourself and your abilities, and it is blocked by shame. Breathe energy into the stomach, imagine what you are ashamed of, and accept yourself as you are. Love is the fourth chakra, located in the heart. Love is the ability to understand and care for another as you do yourself, and is blocked by grief. Breathe energy into your heart and remember the loves you have lost. Remember that they are always with you as long as they remain in your heart, and let them go. Truth is the fifth chakra, located within the throat. Truth is the acceptance of things as they are, and is blocked by lies. Breathe energy into the throat and admit the lies youve told yourself. Insight is the sixth chakra and is located in the forehead. Insight is the ability to see things as they are, and is blocked by the illusions. Some of the strongest illusions are that things connected in our world are mistakenly seen as separate, such as nations and people. Breathe energy into your forehead, remove the illusions, and see the truth. The 7th and final chakra is located at the crown of the head, and is the gateway to the spiritual world. This is the chakra of pure cosmic energy, and is blocked by worldly attachments. In order to fulfill your spiritual potential and become one with the universe, you must let go of that which you care for most. The release of attachments will be difficult for most, but is required to complete your spiritual journey. Breathe energy into the crown of your head, release yourself from your physical body, release yourself from your attachments, and feel the cosmic energy flow through you. As you overcome fear, guilt, shame, grief, lies, illusions, and attachments, you may use this energy any way you wish. To heal, for strength, even to share with another. With practice, you will have a better understanding of your chakras, and be able to pinpoint which specific chakra is being blocked at a given time. A helpful technique to build energy in the body is to imagine it spun into a tight spiral. Whether your natural rotation spins left or right depends on the individual, but can be determined by confirming the direction of your hair growth on top of your head. Once skilled at manipulating chakra, it is possible to detect chakra as well. It may also be possible that our spiritual energy may be able to leave our physical body. There are many who believe our physical body is the gateway for our consciousness, but that the two are not permanently fixed together. Projection is an out of body experience which allows our soul to explore where we cannot physically travel. Projection requires a state of relaxation between sleep and awake, allowing yourself to fall into a state of self-hypnosis, such as after a late nap while you are still drowsy. Allow yourself to imagine a dream like event and pull your spirit towards it. It may help to focus on a body part and use your mind to move it spiritually while it remains still physically. Continue with other body parts, separating your consciousness from your physical body. You will feel strong vibrations that comes in waves as your spirit prepares to leave, which may be so strong they feel like an earthquake or rocket launch. Maintain focus and use your mind to move out of your physical self, pulling yourself to the spiritual world. If you become too distracted at this point you will snap back to consciousness. Keep focus and ride the spiritual wave, into the cosmos, through our universe, and beyond imagination.
