Science is where its at: THE FRESNEL WATER PURIFIER is a solution: Solar powered, the Fresnel Water Purifier is capable of purifying drinking water without electricity, filters, chemicals or any other consumables, and may be the only viable solution in remote regions that have no better alternatives. Totally fail safe and passive, it simply produces purified water when the sun is shining, and produces nothing otherwise. It has a life expectancy of about 5 years before requiring any maintenance, and costs of goods is about $75. Most of the components can be sourced in cities near the target location and assembled on location. Upon successful demonstration, the Fresnel Water Purifier could be adopted in equatorial regions all over the world. The Fresnel Water Purifier is appropriate for families and small villages which may not otherwise have access to clean drinking water. The device is most effective when deployed in equatorial regions. THE FRESNEL WATER PURIFIER has already been shown to work: The device uses a flexible, plastic, Fresnel lens, which is far cheaper and lighter than the equivalent glass lens. A working prototype (shown in video above) is fully functional in latitude 38 and has undergone extensive testing. It has been shown to be effective in sterilizing water of bacterial pathogens, and these results have been confirmed by a government certified lab (results attached below). While we know the prototype can produce 4 gallons/day of purified water at latitude 38 in August, it is impossible to reliably estimate its performance near the equator, although it is certain to produce well above 4 gallons. As cooler weather approaches, further evaluation at latitude 38 also becomes impossible. Therefore, we need to deploy and measure a Fresnel Water Purifier in an equatorial region, of which Panama is most convenient. Many facilities in Panama rely on bringing drinking water in by boat, and so communities have expressed interest in the Fresnel Water Purifier.
