A great rider will give to the horse the gift of soundness.” Jean Luc Cornille Straightness is the foundation of soundness. ‘Straight, through and forward’ demand guiding the horse’s brain toward the body coordination to optimize the horse’s talent and keep him sound. Any training technique can make a horse win in the show ring as long as the horse is talented enough. Only training techniques related to the equine physiology can keep a horse sound. Allowing the horse to reach maximum potential and stay sound demands precise synchronization between limb kinematics and the vertebral column mechanisms. Altering such coordination induces abnormal stresses on the limbs joints which, over a period of time cause failure. Science of Motion is an approach to training & therapy which is based upon identifying & correcting specific gait abnormalities inherent in each horse and equally important, adjusting the riders posture and position. Jean Luc Cornille, an international level Three-Day Event rider & trainer, has extensively studied equine anatomy and movement. His research has allowed him to develop a method that can be used to help the horse learn to move correctly and efficiently thus resulting in lightness, self-carriage, and the ability to reach its full athletic potential without injury. Every horse moves differently. None move perfectly, especially with a rider on their back. Even minor defects in gait can eventually result in lameness or suboptimal performance. As with human athletes, careful analysis of how a horse moves and the use of an individualized training program can enhance performance. Come Listen and Learn!
