While In my greedy walk to locate more Huitlacoche, I came across one of wine lovers sacred berries. Not just a small patch , but bucket loads of elderberries! Never has a patch this big been seen , with nearly every berry a perfect ripeness. With only an hour of picking, I gathered over a spackle bucket of these dark colored cluster of gems. These clusters of berries once separated from their stems are the base for some wonderful homemade wines, jellies and healthful juices. After gathering and cleaning these berries it is recommended that cooking the berries not only allows for its juices to be released from the skins, but heat breaks down the cyanide-inducing glycosides that may be contained in the raw fruits and small twigs. Elderberries are at their peak , so get yourself out and enjoy Another taste of the wild.
