Scotlands Desert Rat says Lang was offensive Sat, 01/02/2014 - 11:08 Scotlands oldest surviving member of the legendary Desert Rats has responded to the remarks this week from a Tory peer about the independence referendum . 102 year old Jimmy Sinclair from Kirkcaldy has said he thinks Lord Langs intervention was offensive The No campaign slumped to new depths this week when Lord Lang of Monkton claimed in a debate in the House of Lords that voting for independence would - in his words - dishonour those who died in wars. His offensive and damaging outburst was supported by Labours Baroness Liddell , whilst leading Scottish Tories have distanced themselves from his remarks . Now one of Scotlands real war heroes has joined the condemnation. Reported in todays Courier, Jimmy Sinclair commented : This is really offensive stuff from Lord Lang . I dont remember seeing him on any battlefield . It is a ridiculous thing for him to say . Sacrifices made on the battlefield of the past wars are respected by everyone. I will be voting Yes in the referendum , because I am a patriot and I believe in Scotlands future . With a Yes vote we can stop people like Lord Lang and the undemocratic House of Lords interfering in Scotlands affairs Annabelle Ewing SNP MSP for Mid-Scotland and Fife added: Lord Lang should not have sunk to the depths he did in the House of Lords . While Ruth Davidsons attempts to distance herself from his ill-judged remarks did not come quickly enough, at least she acknowledged that the language was not acceptable. But Lord Langs crass remarks have caused offence to many and for that reason he should apologise.
