I will preface with the following remarks. Since the time of President George Washington, the Congressional Medal of Honor has been bestowed on many very heroic or significant people. Various categories have been added, and there is a great website summarizing this. As I have mentioned to some friends, the WIC program idea was started by the last Chabad Rebbe, Menachem Mendel Schneersohn. The first implementation of this program was initiated by the late Congresswoman, Shirley Chisolm. The Rebbe was responsible for countless other acts that directly and indirectly affected and even saved lives. He was the first spiritual leader to receive this award. If anyone is interested, I would like to also present a short 4-5 minute video of him talking decades ago about immigration and emigration at a meeting. Raoul Wallenberg was the latest recipient of this award. If you ever scroll through the entire list of recipients, you may surmise that some recipients, although prominent and even great people, pale in comparison to those that literally changed the world in profound ways. Raoul Wallenberg was one of those individuals. There are speakers on the video such as Harry Reid and ultimately Raouls sister that put a lump in my throat.
