Screen Grabs by Colwyn Thomas of Sundays performance of Understanding Fuleni Documentary Theatre project in Ocilwane village in Zululand. One of the most rewarding theater-making collaborations I have had the fortune of participating in. We were elated with the audience response and reaction to this form of collaborative research based story-telling and activism. The project would not have been possible without the sublime talents and passions of co-collaborators/writers and actors: Mpapa Simo Majola, Dylan McGarry, Mpume Mthombeni, Menzi Mkhwane and Andile Ncayana and the generous financial support provided by Steven Stead and Gregory Leo King of KickstArt, Margie Coppen of Think Theatre, Gregg Coppen, Travis Jon McGarry, Kelly Daniels, Nikki Raw, Joanne Raw, Karen Melissa Logan (Amehlo Productions) and Iain Gregory Robinson, Prof. Deborah Arlene Lutge and the DUT Drama department for the load of rehearsal space. Colwyn Thomas, Greg Lomas and Sophia Baskin for giving up their time and talents to document parts of the process. This is the first phase of the project and we will be launching a Thunderfund campaign in the new week to begin fundraising for the rewrite and recording of our script into a Zulu radio Drama which we hope will be aired on Ukhozi FM and will enable millions more listeners to have access to this story.
