Screw respectability politics; its OK to correct people when they get someones self-identified pronoun wrong, even if it hurts their feelings a little bit to be corrected. This vigil was not about cis gay guys who knew Leelah before she came out as transgender; the vigil was about Leelah. Please note that if you screw up my pronoun, you will be corrected, and corrected again. And again. And thats OK. Thats not heckling; thats not trolling; thats calling you out on being untrue and unjust in your speech to me or about me. And there is a difference. Yes, I screw up all the time with the they or ze pronouns; the difference is that I accept being corrected, apologize, and learn from it.
