Scripture: 2 Timothy 1:7 Scripture Reading: “For the Spirit God - TopicsExpress

Scripture: 2 Timothy 1:7 Scripture Reading: “For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline.” Thought: The world’s view of Jesus is one of weakness and timidity, of a long flowing-haired Jesus holding a white lamb. Nothing could be farther from the truth. We follow a God who created the earth, who walked on water, calms storms with a word, and who rose from the dead. All this while having the self-discipline while being beaten, spat on, and nailed to a cross to look upon us with love and not utter a word or fight back. Reflection 1: Are you timid about your faith? Are you afraid of what others will think or say about you if they knew you were following, or thinking of following Jesus? Talk about a time when you were timid. Reflection 2: It is the Spirit God GAVE us that gives us power, love and self-discipline. Often we think of self-discipline as just that, something we (self) do. Nope. As we accept God’s power and love, only then can we resist temptation, and apply discipline in our spiritual life. Reflect on this in your own life, where in the last week have you relied on your own power, your own love, your own self-discipline? Contributor: Jamie Hanson
