Scythian I The Scythians were an ancient Iranian pastoral nomadic tribe that branched out into the Pontiac Steppe from Northern Iran. According to Greek Historian Herodotus, the migration occurred about at about 1,000 BC and stretched as far north as the Ukraine and Russia. Scythian burial mounds discovered in the Ukraine date back to 900 BC. These burial mounds (some over 20 meters high), dot the Ukrainian and south Russian steppes, extending in great chains for many kilometers along ridges and watersheds.
