Sea Food in Islam: Allah says in quran in surah Maida v:96 That: Lawful to you the seafood what you caught by hunting or water game for you and for those who are in travel According to Shafie, Maliki and Humbli School of thought every animal which caught from water is halal/lawful to eat except those who can breath on land too like frog, crocodile etc. All the animals of water which are purely live in water are all halal. Bcoz the verse indicate all the sea food not only the fish. Only according to fiqh Hanafi, the fish and its kinds are halaal/lawful to eat. But the collectively Quranic verses and Ahadith indicate that every sea animal which is purely lives in water is halaal and Majority of Scholars are agreed on it. Now i refer some of the authentic hadith about sea food for further details. Hazrat Abu Bakar Radiyallahu anhu Said: Every animal in water are Taaam (Food) for you except who lives in land too (Ibn e Abi Hatim) Abdullah ibn e Abbas Radiyallahu Anhu Stated that: Every animal which water gives you dead or alive is Taaam (Food) for you (Ibn e Jareer) Arabic word Taaam has two meanings, 1st is Food and 2nd is what you caught dead from water. Both meanings indicate the sea food in this verse so theres not any difference of opinion on it. Hassan Basri Rehmatullah Alayh Also stated the same opinion regarding seafood.
