Sea turtles arent the only turtles to be found here. Last week, one of our biologists came across this eastern box turtle near the Bodie Island Lighthouse (https://flickr/photos/capehatterasnps/14200982545/), who quickly retreated into its shell. The eastern box turtles are terrestrial reptiles that live in the maritime forests, foraging during the day for food. As omnivores, food means just about anything, from insects to fruit. Just like the sea turtles that visit here, remember to leave these critters alone if you happen upon one. Enjoy watching them from a safe distance.
