Seaboard gets Bwk airport runway contract By Pamela Permar Shierling The Glynn County Airport Commission (GCAC) voted last week to select Seaboard Construction as the contractor for the Brunswick Golden Isles Airport Runway/Taxiway Rehabilitation Project. The GCAC received two bids on June 28 from Seaboard Construction and McLendon Enterprises. Seaboard was the low bidder at $15,117,704. The bid is under engineer Brian Thompson’s estimate of $16 million and almost $9.5 million lower than Seaboard’s original bid of $24.5 million in March of this year. Thompson works for RS&H, the GCAC engineering firm. Due to the high cost of the original bid, the GCAC rejected it and rebid the project. According to Interim Director Steve Brian the cost reduction is due to a revised paving schedule which would allow the contractor 42 nights, 12 hours per night, of paving. The original requirement was all paving had to be done during three weekend airport closures. Brian also said the FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) and the GDOT (Georgia Department of Transportation) are prepared to accept a grant application for the entire project but have not committed to the entire amount which may have to be supplied in two separate grants.
