Seale-Lily Ice Cream Store, ca 1915 2209 Washington Street, Vicksburg As I was driving down Washington Street a few days ago, I did a double take as I passed by the building shown in the pictures below. I remembered seeing a picture of it in my “Moore’s Groceries” Cookbook, but barely recognized it as the old Seale-Lily Ice Cream Store depicted in the beautiful photograph taken long ago by Mr. J. Mack Moore. According to the records of the Mississippi Department of Archives and History, the building is “an eclectic Spanish or Mediterranean Style building, with tiled false-eaves and a fenestration scheme based on an Italian Renaissance motif of arches carried by columns.” The building is currently home to Tri-State Tire Company, and still retains remnants of the architectural elegance of the old ice cream store. I couldn’t find any detailed information about the Seale-Lily Store, but I hope that it was around long enough for you all to have stories to share about good times spent there when you were growing up in Vicksburg.
