Sealed my akorn lid, ash pan and lower vent. Ruined a rack of ribs due to wild temperature swings yesterday while trying out the akorn after sealing it off. Before I sealed the top vent was barely open to half moons. Now this morning got up fired the akorn up to see what the issue was yesterday. To make a long story short turns out I had to open the upper vent more as seen in the picture so the fire wont keep dying out and causing me to crank the the IQ vent from 1-5 which apparently restarted the fire and sky rocketed the temperature not to mention I opened the top vent and whoop there went the temp and a slab or ribs. So now that I figured out the issue after several hours this morning got a second slab on to redeem myself. lol. Oh forgot to mention yesterday poured the last of my lump into the akorn bringing the coals up just under the tabs the smoking stone sits on which may not have helped my issues yesterday. Today I cleared out the center so air can come up through to make a ring of fire that was connected so to speak. Ribs cooking at 223 right now couldnt be happier.
