Sealed settlements are a fundamentally bad idea. They have no purpose other than to keep the public deliberately in the dark about corporate actions that threaten our lives and health. They keep government agencies from looking at the hard facts that are necessary to formulate effective regulation. If a company forces a sealed settlement on a plaintiff desperate to cover or recover medical costs, you can bet that the company caused those medical costs and wants to make sure you never find out.
