Sean Tobin competes in the European Junior Cross Country Double European Cross Country Champion Fionnuala Britton (Kilcoole AC) will lead the Irish Team at the 20th SPAR European Cross Country Championships which takes place in Belgrade, Serbia on December 8th. Sean Tobin (Clonmel AC) leads the charge in the junior men’s race after a storming victory at the national championships in Santry Park. Tobin missed last year’s European championships due to illness will be eager to impress in his last year as a junior. We wish Sean the very best on next Sunday and hopefully by the time of the County Championships in Cashel are over, Sean will be celebrating European success. The rest of the Irish Junior team includes Aaron Hanlon (Clonliffe Harriers AC) who takes his place on the team after a second place finish in the Lotto Cross Cup in Antwerp on November 3rd. Ruairi Finnegan (Letterkenny AC), Kevin Mulcaire (Ennis Track), Andrew Corcoran (Star of the Sea AC) and Con Doherty (Westport AC) are also named in the junior men’s team. County Junior and Senior Cross Country Championships These Championships takes place on Sunday 8th December at a new venue near Cashel, starting at 12 noon. This new course is about 1Km from the Esso Petrol Station as you leave Cashel on the old Cork Dublin road, near the Rock. This is also the venue for the Munster Junior and Senior Cross Country Championships which will take place on January 12th 2014. The programme is Junior Ladies 3K at 12 noon, three athletes to count on a team, Junior Men 6K, three to count on a team, Senior Women 6k, three to count on a team and Senior Men 10K, four to count on a team. The Club is very strong at the moment and it would be great if we can get as many members as possible to compete in these Blue Ribbon events. The Club is aiming to have teams in all four races, we have never achieved that, let’s make it happen in 2013. St Stephen’s Day 4 Miler This very popular race takes place in Clonmel on 26th December at 12 noon. Once again the race headquarters will be the Vocational School, the Mall. The prizes are as follows: 1st 5 Men, 1st 2 0/40, 0/45, 50, 1st 0/55, 0/60, 0/65, 0/70, 1st 2 Junior Men, 1st 5 Ladies, 1st2 0/35, 0/40, 1st 0/45, 0/50, 0/55 and 1st 2 Junior Lady. The Entry Fee is 10 Euros. Last year we had 395 athletes competing and to ensure the safety of this very large entry we will need plenty of Stewards, so I am asking Club members to come forward and give us a helping hand with this fixture. We will also need people to take the entries which will be from 10am onwards. Some of our members are great to help with the stewarding, can we have some new faces to help us with the stewarding for this event. Can you let me know at 086 1660888 if you are helping. Club Membership The Senior and Master Membership Fee for 2014 is 30 Euros and it is due from Jan 1st onwards. Please find Membership form attached, you can return the form filled out and signed along with the fees to me or you could hand it is at the St Stephen’s Day Race of give it to any of the leaders at the Monday night Training Sessions. The Joe Grinsell 100k Challenge In 2013 the Club mourned the loss of one of its finest athletes with the sudden and tragic death of Joe Grinsell. Joe made a lasting impression on Club members that knew him and he was a brilliant Club member, always available to help out at any opportunity. He will be fondly missed. Joe supported all our events throughout the year and we are going to honour him in 2014 with the Joe Grinsell 100K Challenge. The Club promotes 29 events over the year amounting to approx 162Kms. So we will present a Special designed Joe Grinsell 100K Challenge long sleeve top to everyone who completes a 100k of these races. There is no Entry fee for this event. Once the Races Permits are confirmed at the County Board meeting on the 5th December we will issue the full list.
